For years a group of supporters had worked alongside the students and staff to keep the Arboretum's gardens growing, and the Associates formalized this relationship. This hardy band began to sell plants at the first of the now eagerly awaited Spring and Fall Plant sales. They helped the Arboretum to introduce valuable species from its collections to the public.
